February “Neck of the Woods” evening

The next Neck of the Woods Performance Series is just around the corner. The Saturday, February 11th show (7pm~10ish) will feature Scarlet Virginia (indy/folk/rock music), Lenard Moore (poetry), and Claire Ramsey (storytelling).

The show is FREE, however we do suggest a $5 donation for the artists. Here are some details:

Scarlet VirginiaSCARLET VIRGINIA http://www.scarletvir… — The lead singer is a remarkable songwriter and has a gorgeous voice. Her vocals and harmonies, combined with the violin, get me every time. I love all of her work, but my favorite is “Fireflies” – song #5. Check it out. Here’s a brief bio: Scarlet Virginia is an indie folk/rock band from Raleigh, NC who bring rich harmonies, haunting melodies, and a bit of old fashioned folk to their diverse tunes. Having just released their first official EP By Lamplight a year ago (available on iTunes), they currently play all over the triangle and beyond.

LENARD MOORE http://en.wikipedia.o… — Wow. What an honor to be hosting this esteemed poet! His bio: Lenard Duane Moore is a native North Carolinian, born in Jacksonville. He is a writer of poetry, drama, essays and literary criticism, and has been writing and publishing haiku for over 20 years. In 2008, he became the first Southerner and the first African American to be elected as President of the Haiku Society of America. Lenard is the haiku editor for Simply Haiku, and he is the founder and executive director of the Carolina African American Writers’ Collective (CAAWC). He has received the Sam Ragan Fine Arts Award for his contribution to the fine arts of North Carolina.Lenard is also Executive Chairman of the North Carolina Haiku Society and co-founder of the Washington Street Writers Group. His poems have appeared in more than 350 publications and in more than 50 anthologies. He has also been awarded the Raleigh Medal of the Arts for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts. His most recent book of poetry is A TEMPLE LOOMING.

CLAIRE RAMSEY http://www.storieswit… Story time for grown-ups! Claire is a wonderful local talent and I’m sure we’re in for a treat. Here’s Claire’s bio: Claire Vera Ramsey discovered storytelling by drawing stories in pictures when she was still too young to write. Claire’s storytelling upgraded from hobby to her business Stories With Claire after she took a university storytelling class. The “premier storyteller” of Wake Forest and former president of the North Carolina Storytelling Guild, Claire Ramsey believes storytelling help people learn from one another… and have fun!

Josh Zaslow and Nadeen BirBir and Zaslow

RYAN STEVENS always loved acting, but didn’t think he had the chops until, while working in the job force, he joined a special breed of folks known as ‘the unemployed’. Always being told that he “missed his calling”, and now having a lot of free time, Stevens dove into acting and stand-up comedy. He found success in local theatre, short films, and comedy workshops. Stevens eventually found steady work in his previous field, but he continued to pursue acting – starring in short films such as “Evangeline”, “Mulligans”, and “Mansions in Heaven”, as well as some commercials and several plays. A Passion for 3D and video editing, Stevens created Fedora Technologies (www.fedoratech.com) and creates 2D and 3D trailers to help other writers pitch their screenplays, books, or other online presentations. He enjoys 3D Animation, salsa dancing, motorcycles, skydiving, and of course, movies. The best thing about acting? – “Entertaining people and working with great folks who eventually become your good friends. I guess that’s two things” :) Stevens is from Chicago, and now resides in Raleigh, NC
